A study comparing the Dental Pod to other cleaning methods (including brushing, rinsing, and soaking in a tablet solution) found that cleaning clear aligners with a Dental Pod removed significantly more fungus than all other cleaning methods tested. Brushing is too abrasive and creates micro scratches on the surface of your oral appliance, in which stains and bacteria thrive. These scratches then make it difficult to reach hidden bacteria, and can also make your clear oral appliance look cloudy and dull over time.

Only using a cleaning tablet is like cleaning your teeth with toothpaste but no toothbrush. Tablets will kill some of the bacteria on your appliance, but the chemicals cannot penetrate any deeper than the very surface level.
